Carl Grimes

Carl Grimes founded Healthy Habitats® LLC in 1987 to address the needs of individuals who were not being satisfactorily helped by conventional indoor air quality methods. His journey began from personal tragedy—twenty years ago, a combination of indoor exposures and medical issues caused him to lose his health, family, home, and livelihood. Unable to work for two years and taking another eight to recover to part-time capacity, he transformed this experience into expertise that helps others avoid the same unnecessary suffering.

A doctor asked Carl to meet with patients experiencing similar struggles, launching his consulting practice eighteen years ago. He has since published Starting Points for a Healthy Habitat, served on the IICRC Task Force for the S520 Standard for Professional Mold Remediation, and was elected to the Indoor Air Quality Association Board of Directors. His work has been featured on local television, national forums, and industry publications including IE Connections, where he serves on the Editorial Advisory Board.

Carl holds a unique position within the IAQ industry—having experienced poor indoor air quality both as a consumer and as a professional. He understands that each side has critical truths and mistakes. His methods focus on empowering individuals to identify and solve their own exposure complaints, especially when experts fail or demand surrender of personal autonomy. The lessons learned from highly susceptible clients apply powerfully to the general population, providing richer solutions than exposure-only or susceptibility-only approaches.
